Issora's Halo Tutorial by Issora Issora's Halo Tutorial by Issora
:icontokotas:

Decided to make a tutorial on how I add lineart halos to my tokotas. This isn't an official guide, just how I do them, but mine always pass and have a nice, subtle effect. I'm a SAI user, but I do use PS CS2 to do my halos, simply because the blur functions make the process much simpler.

PS CS2 can be downloaded directly from Adobe here.

Making a halo in PS, any version, is as simple as adding a new layer beneath your designs base, selecting your base coat, and filling in the selection on the new layer. Use the gaussian blur to make a nice, even, soft blur and you're done!

It's not impossible to make a halo in SAI, but you have to hand blur the halo, which is tricky and can lead to a smudged, uneven halo, which can be rejected.

Halos should be subtle - not too saturated, not too dark/light, and shouldn't blur out too far.

Anyway, hope this helps with anyone looking to achieve this effect on your imports.

Alternatively to skip the select->inverse step, you can just hold down CTRL on your keyboard while you click the little square on the layer. (The actual thumbnail square! NOT the name.) and it'll select everything on that layer.

Ah, nice! It's been a long time since I've used PS so this is a sort of "dumbed down" version, but I'm gonna try that ^^

All I use is clip Studio(5), the steps are the same. Just the tool icons look different.
I don't know about previous versions of Clip Studio though.

Also, great Tutorial Issora! I never noticed Halos on Tokotas before, but I'll certainly be looking for them now.
